Rén Space is delighted to present Yang Zhenzhong Solo Exhibition, Exposure, opening on November 1, 2020. As Yang Zhenzhong’s first solo exhibition with Rén Space, the works presented are his new sculptural installation and video works from his recent collaboration with Rén Space using the latest robotic carving technologies. The works in Exposure represents fascination on technology that enable infinite possibilities as well as Yang Zhenzhong’s reflection of backlash that may override or overwhelm human capabilities. He attempts to interrupt and expose aspects of creation that take advantage of the new technology and highlight the essential need for human interjection.
Yang Zhenzhong, born in 1968 in Hangzhou, China, lives and works in Shanghai. His contribution to new media art in Chinese contemporary art discourse is considered to be among the most significant. Working across media such as video, photograph, installation, and curatorial practice, he articulates contradictions and disorders in a society and a poetics of materiality through its own idiosyncrasy. His works have been exhibited globally, and have participated in numerous in international Biennale. His works can also be found in collection of significant public and private institutes such as MoMA New York, Ikon Gallery (U.K.), Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Musée National d’Art Moderne and the UBS Collection.
